Foundations of Cake Decorating
Overview
Build a strong foundation in cake decorating with Level 1 at Deco Cake Academy. This comprehensive 7-day beginner program combines essential baking techniques with hands-on cake decorating instruction, guiding students through every stage of the process — from baking cakes and preparing fillings to mastering buttercream, fondant, and complete cake assembly.
Through five days of guided instruction and two days of practical examinations, students will develop the confidence and technical skills needed to create beautifully finished cakes for any occasion.
Course Outline
Day 1: Baking Cakes & Fillings
- Learn foundational cake recipes
- Prepare a variety of fillings
Day 2: Buttercream & Crumb Coating
- Master buttercream preparation
- Learn the fundamentals of crumb coating
Day 3: Masking Cakes & Basic Buttercream Decorations
- Create smooth, professionally finished cakes
- Practice essential buttercream decorating techniques
Day 4: Basic Fondant Decorations
- Learn how to work with fondant
- Create simple decorative elements
Day 5: Complete Cake Decoration
- Combine all techniques to decorate a finished cake from start to finish
Days 6 & 7: Practical Examination
- Demonstrate your skills in baking, crumb coating, and complete cake decoration
